I have been hearing that we need to tell of the Gospel to one another. Not to hear it at a church or worship center, but to personally testify our personal stories to one another. There is a reason for this.
I prayed my Daily Devotions today and read two chapters in their entirety, as it is Sunday and I am not in a hurry to go to work. I have time to read and take in the Word as we need to, patiently. I read the story of John the Baptist in John 3:22-36 and of Jesus in John 4:1-42.
John testifies about Jesus to a Jew and some of his disciples as to what is specifically taking place with Jesus and his twelve apostles, who are now baptizing people as well. Only Jesus' numbers are noticeable – He has caught the attention of the Pharisees. John says to them:
John 3:30
“He must become greater; I must become less.”
Jesus travels to Galilee and stops at Sychar, where Jacob’s well is located. This is where He speaks to a Samaritan woman and establishes that by the Holy Spirit is how we are to worship to God and that personal testimony draws people to become believers. The apostles are also taught that the work of doing the will of God is nourishing to the Spirit. To seek those who are ready to harvest into the Kingdom by salvation. This is what is learned from this story.
John 4:34-38
34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. 35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. 36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37 Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. 38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”
All of this is to be done to bring God’s children to Him by way of the Son. We are to share in bringing our brothers and sisters into the Light by our work. We are the Body of Christ, each of us. Why?
Not only to promote the One True God, One True Church and Salvation, but so that others will be inspired to learn about the Lord by our influence. They will eventually develop their own walks, their own testimonies and their own love for God.
Because they asked, Jesus stayed for two days in that town. He won many over to the Kingdom by His words. That town was abundant with believers due to the trust and love the people surrendered to God.
John 4:42
They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
That is why.
