In the New Testament a story of a demon possessed man is told. In Matthew, chapter 8; Mark, chapter 5; and Luke, chapter 8. The story tells of a man who comes out to meet Jesus, which are actually the demons coming out to meet the Lord. This man is possessed by enough demons to go into two thousand pigs, which ran down a steep bank into a lake and drowned.
The demons identify themselves as Legion, because there are many of them. The man they are possessing is living in the tombs in the region of Gerasenes. Jesus commands the demons into the two thousand pigs at their request. There are other instances where Jesus commands demons out of people; it is astonishing that they recognize him as the Son of God each time.
I wanted to focus on this because it has meaning to me, personally. I have had “inner demons” that I have had to vanquish in my past. As a young man, they tortured me from events that caused me to abuse myself. Only in Jesus Christ did I find the peace and love that enabled me to rid myself of them. I have been so grateful to the Lord for being relieved of them.
I have seen a few of my fb friends deal with some of these types of demons: abuse, alcohol, drugs, infidelity among others. I am pleased to see them overcome these hurdles and move on. It takes quite an effort for some, but for others they are motivated by the exhilaration of relief. An experience of cleansing is a wonderful event to have.
The day comes when you wake up and are actually free from the stress and anxiety of the torture. It is a great day when you are free from the bondage of being in the grip of agony. When the Lord lifts it off of you, it is an elation that you never forget. You knew suffering for so long that the difference is very noticeable.
I pray that anyone who needs this kind of relief will turn to Jesus Christ; He will heal you from anything. Faith will provide a whole new life for you and life will be worth living. It takes the wanting and desire of relief for this to happen. You must surrender yourself to the Lord completely. Trust in Him to make all things well with you.
God bless you and may your journey in faith be a beautiful one.
(By the way, after being cleansed of those demons, the man begged Jesus to allow him to join his followers. Jesus said for him to go home to his family and witness about the Lord's mercy. He did just that and people were amazed by his testimony.)
