John 3:5-8
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
In the spring of 1979, I recited a sinner's prayer and after I finished it our Lord Jesus spoke to me in Spirit. I was baptized as an infant. My family had attended church together for all of my years of growing up.
This was a time when my parents had separated. We still attended church. So what was the significance of the sinners prayer?
Going to church, singing/listening to songs, saying prayers and creeds and listening to sermons are all one thing. They are acts. The sinners prayer is the start of a spiritual confession of your sins and receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior.
If you truly mean what you are saying, you receive the Holy Spirit of God and Christ into you at that moment. From this moment forward you establish a personal relationship with Him. It cannot be undone or broken.
We become everlasting children of God through our true and spiritual faith. We become co-heirs with Christ. We become members of a royal priesthood.
Denomination does not matter to God. We all become a part of Him in a personal relationship. There are no labels or brands of Christian faith - something which we have done, not Him.
I still hear the voice of Lord Jesus Christ in Spirit.
