Galatians 3:23-29
What Faith Has Brought Us
Before faith came, we were held in custody under law, confined for the faith that was to be revealed. Consequently, the law was our disciplinarian for Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a disciplinarian. For through faith you are all children of God in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendant, heirs according to the promise.
As I was being raised by Momma, she had me focus on learning sets, I was instructed to learn words and definitions. I was around six years of age.
I had a very innocent sense of life and existing then. I only focused on living, learning and being obedient. I now see that I was impacted by Momma's education in a convent that she had been raised up in after her dad died, when she was a child.
A day came when she said,"A colored woman is coming over to watch you and your sisters today. I have some matters that I need to take care of." I said,"Okay, Momma." We were living in the Aldine area of Houston, Texas at that time.
Later, a woman came to our house. Momma introduced her to me. I looked at the lady and I observed her appearance.
I said,"Momma, she's not colored. She has one color." At that moment my Momma became embarrassed and the woman was stunned. It was explained that I was told a colored woman was coming to baby sit; Momma had no idea that I took the description literally. I was expecting someone looking like a rainbow in color to come to our home.
They both had a good laugh over my confusion. Momma soon left to attend to her business. The lady was left with us and explained,"Now, I am just going to sit here in the living room and watch TV. If you need anything, just come and tell me."
She was a girthy middle-aged woman. She had a thin cotton summer dress, hair scarf wrapped around her head and a coffee can that she used to spit into. She enjoyed chewing tobacco.
No incidents occurred while she was watching over us. When Momma got back they talked a bit, received her fee and was gone. I never saw her again.
I now look back at that event and realize that Momma was not racist. She used that exact term colored. That is how she was.
I wanted to share that day of my life to express what our LORD sees us as. Not races or backgrounds. HE sees us as HIS beloved children, especially if we are in HIS light and on HIS path. Every person is a child of GOD; however, not all of us believe and love the ONE TRUE GOD and HIS SON, Lord Jesus Christ.
Mark 10:15-16
Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like that of a child will not enter it.” Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them.
Amen.
