Back in Cut-N-Shoot, Texas, where I grew up, there was a particular tree that my second sister liked. She would take her sketch book and just sit, draw and commune with nature. One day, I decided to go and sit under that tree to find out what she liked so much about the area. I realized I could really do some good reflecting there and it was a nice spot for just relaxing.
I would go there and sit and just think about an array of things. I would also sit on a thick wooden bench on the bank of Crystal Creek. I would look up at all the trees and watch the leaves, birds and squirrels. I would look at the shimmering reflection of the rays of sunlight on the water. I really enjoyed being able to walk outside of our home and go to these nearby places to relax and think.
Nowadays, I long for those places on days when I could use a good reflection area. Life is stressful and my instinct is to think my way through the difficulties that arise. I do, however, have a greater resource available to me for this purpose - my faith.
Acts 5:30
The God of our fathers hath raised up Jesus, whom you put to death, hanging him upon a tree.
The Cross is the tree that the Apostle Paul refers to in this verse. In the Cross, I have my ultimate thinking place. I pray, praise and seek counsel and solitude. I began with placing myself at the Cross when I recited my sinner's prayer and surrendered to Jesus. Ever since, my tree has been the one my sweet Lord was crucified on at Mount Calvary.
In my Christian faith, I am provided the gift of being able to reach out in faith and prayer for all of my needs. Waiting there for me is Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit and he hears me and communicates his answers. I am able to resolve all of my life's issues with him and not be left feeling helpless or hopeless.
John 14:13
And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
...and also:
John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
At the tree, all of us can find answers to every concern and need. So, don't forget to frequent the tree every day. Some days the need will be more urgent than others, but all of our days belong to the Lord.
Blessings to you.
