Matthew 11:2-6
The Messengers from John the Baptist
When John the Baptist heard in prison of the works of the Christ,
he sent his disciples to Jesus with this question,
“Are you the one who is to come,
or should we look for another?”
Jesus said to them in reply,
“Go and tell John what you hear and see:
the blind regain their sight,
the lame walk,
lepers are cleansed,
the deaf hear,
the dead are raised,
and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them.
And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me.”
The book of John and chapter 11 have been a topic of discussion for generations. It is often said that John the baptist was doubting his cousin Jesus was the Messiah foretold of by the prophets throughout the ages. I don't see it that way after once again hearing and reading the words contained in my sharing this morning.
I believe that John knew that he was near his time of death. He was affirming his ultimate price for having a stern faith and love for God. This is why he had his disciples go and ask Jesus the question. He was also setting them at peace as well.
How very noble and mindful of John to do this. I can see that he was inspired by the Holy Spirit to do this act. This also reflects that he was a deep prayerful man.
In our darkest hour, which seems to come more often than not. Remember the constant and steadfast faith, love and trust that John the baptist displayed in this story of his imprisonment.
Remember too the strength and prayerfulness of Lord Jesus Christ, Mother Mary and of the apostles. Be mindful to remember the teaching of Him to pray in good faith and to be in the will of our Father in order to receive the blessings that we need in this life and the eternal one that is to come.
Amen.
(Yes, the Holy Spirit inspired each word that I just shared. Truly.)
