Proverbs 19:14 - House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.
A Christian life. This is something you do by living. My Momma lived it. She had a daily life and was steady in it. She was a focused woman that maintained a precise schedule each day. I recall those mornings when we gathered during the school week after preparing for school. We got up on time, got cleaned up and went to school.
When we got home it was time for homework and chores - mine included taking care of our livestock. When Momma got home from work, she changed clothes and would make supper for us. Again we gathered to eat and she'd clean up after us. This took place every day in our home.
On the weekends was when Momma would clean house. She was diligent about taking care of her family and home. She was steadfast in her belief of God. She taught it to us.
Sunday morning was church time. No excuses. We would always stop at a grocery store called Weingarten's to purchase fresh hot glazed donuts on the way home. Church and donuts - without fail.
When things troubled Momma she would seclude herself and pray. Yes, she cried and felt anguish for a time. She would always find strength in prayer. Every time. She was an amazing woman.
She taught me to trust in God. That is the best thing a parent can instill in their child. Without God we are nothing.
Momma lived out an example of Christian faith. She did not go around quoting scripture or go door-to-door trying to save people. She was a steady person who did her job well, was reliable, took care of her family and impacted the lives of my sisters, our children and their children.
We should live just like that. Impact the people you love. Our Christian journey begins in the home. For those who didn't have it that way, may you begin your journey now. If you have, good. If not, why not?
Amen.
