Deuteronomy 6:5
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
The Old and New Testament children of God that served His purposes were not perfect in behavior. The Old Testament reveals traits and errs that are shocking: Abraham allowed his wife Sarah to be used in order for his personal gain, Joseph married an Egyptian women and had children with her, Moses killed a man and did not always do exactly what God asked of Him, Sampson was an uncontrollable carnal man, David murdered a friend in order to have his wife, Solomon had 300 wives and 700 concubines and the apostles were gathered from the lives of sin that they were living to serve Jesus.
Nobody is perfect, from the beginning of mankind's existence to now. Todays Christians cannot pretend to be completely clean because we are not. We are only purified and made clean by the blood of Lord Jesus Christ. All of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
Jesus Christ our Lord is our Savior and calls out to all of us from wherever we are and how we live. He paid for our sins on the cross and eternally lives to save us. All we must do is what all of God's children have been doing since the days of the Old Testament.
